Child Protection Policy

  • 1. Policy Statement
The Lynden School of Dance is committed to ensuring the safety and protection of all children and young people who participate in our classes, workshops, and events. We acknowledge our duty of care to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and are dedicated to providing an environment that is safe, welcoming, and respectful for everyone.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all staff, volunteers, parents, and anyone involved in The Lynden School of Dance activities, in England, UK.
3. Principles
  • The welfare of the child is paramount.
  • All children, regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation have a right to equal protection from all types of harm or abuse.
  • Working in partnership with children, young people, their parents, carers, and other agencies is essential in promoting young people's welfare.
4. Recognizing Signs of Abuse and Neglect
All staff and volunteers are trained to recognize signs of abuse and neglect and understand their responsibility in acting upon any concerns.
5. Responding to Concerns
  • Any concern for a child’s welfare will be acted upon immediately.
  • A clear procedure is in place for reporting concerns, internally and to external authorities as necessary (Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO), social services, or the police).
  • All concerns and actions taken are recorded accurately.
6. Training and Support
  • Regular training on child protection and safeguarding is mandatory for all staff and volunteers.
  • We ensure that all members understand their roles and responsibilities in safeguarding children and young people.
7. Safe Recruitment
  • Rigorous checks, including Enhanced DBS checks, are conducted for all staff and volunteers working with children.
  • References are obtained, and qualifications are verified.
8. Code of Conduct
  • A code of conduct outlining expected behaviours from staff, volunteers, and participants is in place and adhered to by everyone involved in the school.
9. Online Safety
  • We ensure measures are in place to protect children when they are participating in online classes or activities.
10. Review and Monitoring
  • This policy is reviewed annually and updated as necessary to reflect changes in legislation and best practice.
  • The effectiveness of our child protection procedures is regularly monitored.
11. Reporting and Confidentiality
  • All information related to safeguarding concerns is kept confidential and shared only with those who need to know to protect the child.
